POLISI LAB 17th Class:
Post-Truth and the Rise of Populism
Conducted by Danial Rahman
Saturday 23rd November 2019, 10am-1pm
Rumah Attap Library & Collective, Zhongshan Building, Kampung Attap, KL.
In this day and age, we can’t run away from post-truths, fake news or alternative facts. From our Whatsapp groups to our social media channels, the line between fact and fiction is blurring. Undeniably, these are impacting not just our personal beliefs and lives, but also policy formulation and political narratives both locally and globally.
In this interactive session, learners will: (1) explore the concept of post-truth and how it has led to the rise of populism; (2) understand how digital media has escalated these phenomena; (3) analyze its consequences on society and policy; and (4) discuss solutions to the challenges of post-truth culture.
This class will provide an overview of how we view politics today from a digital perspective, addressing major platforms used for political purposes so that we can be better informed media users and, ultimately, citizens.
